Complex optical health information. Diverse audiences with varying digital literacy. Critical need for early detection.
Specsavers needed a learning module that could save people's sight. We built it.
The Problem:
Vision problems often go undetected until significant damage occurs. Carers, care home staff, and family members need to recognize early warning signs - but they're not medical professionals.
The challenge: transform complex optical health information into accessible, practical guidance that encourages early intervention across audiences who may have never completed online learning before.
Our Approach:
We worked closely with Specsavers' marketing team and optometrists to develop a comprehensive digital learning module focused on identifying signs of poor vision.
The objectives were clear:
Educate carers and stakeholders about vision problem indicators
Present complex medical information simply, cleanly, and effectively
Create content suitable for diverse audiences, including those new to online learning
Encourage early intervention and regular eye health checks
Building the Solution:
Expert Interview Videos:
We filmed an interview with a Specsavers optometrist using our Panasonic S5IIX camera, capturing professional-quality footage of their expertise and practical insights. Real experts explaining real solutions.
Animated Explainers:
Using Adobe After Effects, we created dynamic animated characters and motion graphics showing stories about symptoms of poor eye health. We also included a typography video visualising statistics about vision health - making data memorable and impactful.
Custom Illustrations:
Our design team developed bespoke illustrations in Adobe Illustrator that clarified key anatomical concepts and symptoms of various vision conditions. Complex medical concepts became visually understandable.
Interactive Elements:
The module featured interactive components allowing learners to test their knowledge and explore concepts at their own pace - crucial for audiences with varying digital literacy levels.

Adobe After Effects
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Photoshop
Adobe Premiere Pro

The Results:
We created a multi-layered learning experience that serves as both an educational tool and a potential sight-saving resource.
By combining expert interviews, animation, custom illustrations, and interactive elements, we transformed complex optical health information into something carers, healthcare professionals, and family members could actually understand and act upon.
The module promotes early detection of vision problems - potentially saving people's sight by encouraging timely intervention.
What We Learned:
Healthcare learning needs to balance medical accuracy with accessibility. Working directly with optometrists ensured clinical accuracy while our instructional design made it understandable for non-medical audiences.
Multiple formats matter. Different learners engage with different content types - videos for some, interactive elements for others, illustrations for visual learners. Combining them creates richer learning experiences.
The Bottom Line:
At BB Visual Ltd, we specialise in transforming complex subjects into compelling digital experiences that are simple, clean, and effective. Our work with Specsavers demonstrates our ability to blend instructional design expertise with cutting-edge digital media production.
Whether you're in healthcare, education, or any sector needing effective knowledge transfer, we create learning experiences that don't just inform - they inspire action and make a genuine difference.
