Digital Learning

Paper-based induction. Hour-long face-to-face sessions covering basic information. New starters overwhelmed on day one.

Henry Boot Group needed a better way to welcome new talent. We built it.

The Problem:

Henry Boot, a well-established construction and property development company, had a predominantly paper-based, instructor-led induction process. This created:

  • Inconsistent messaging across different locations

  • Administrative burden on HR and managers

  • Wasted face-to-face time covering standard information

  • Difficulty accommodating remote new starters

  • Poor first impressions for new employees

They wanted to modernise their induction while maintaining their professional brand and company culture.

Our Approach:

Henry Boot's L&D team had clear objectives:

  • Create a digital module complementing face-to-face sessions

  • Ensure consistent messaging about values, history, and policies

  • Reduce administrative burden

  • Accommodate both office-based and remote starters

  • Present information in an engaging, memorable format

  • Provide measurable completion data for compliance

Our design strategy focused on creating a modular, interactive, visually engaging, accessible, and responsive experience.

Building the Solution:

Articulate Rise:
Provided the foundation for a responsive, accessible learning experience that works across all devices.

Articulate 360:
Allowed us to create custom interactions and assessments, including:

  • Interactive company timeline showcasing Henry Boot's history

  • Scenario-based exercises exploring common workplace situations

  • Knowledge checks reinforcing critical information

Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop:
Developed bespoke graphics and visual elements aligned with Henry Boot's brand guidelines.

Embedded Video Content:
Featured welcome messages from key leaders, creating personal connection from day one.

The Results:

The digital induction module delivered measurable business impact:

Time Efficiency: Reduced initial face-to-face training time, allowing for more focused, value-added interactions

Consistency: All new starters receive identical core information regardless of location or start date

Engagement: Feedback surveys show new employees feel more connected to company values and culture from day one

Flexibility: Successfully supported both remote and in-person onboarding during workplace disruption

Compliance: Improved tracking of completion rates for mandatory induction elements

What We Learned:

Blended learning works. By providing essential information digitally before day one, face-to-face time becomes more valuable for relationship building and addressing specific questions rather than covering standard content.

First impressions matter. A well-designed digital induction sets the tone for an employee's entire journey with the company. New starters who feel connected to values and culture from day one are more likely to engage and stay.

The Bottom Line:

At BB Visual Ltd, we transform standard onboarding into opportunities to build connection, understanding, and enthusiasm from day one. Our work with Henry Boot demonstrates how digital learning can enhance—not replace—the human elements of welcoming new talent.
